It should not get a 8 but low 6 score.

Resource hog ? I beg to difffer, 2142 runs alot better than BF2 by a long shot in my experiance. And if your the kind of dude who thinks it funny to lag people out (I', all for moving the titan whlist the shields are up but once they fall, its fecking retarded, nades and bodies roll accross the floor etc) then your a bit of an ass, as for the glitchs,I don't know about you but I'd rather play through them than go back to BF2...

The problems I have with this game are very small ones. That is the main problem with this series I think. There aren't enough large issues to make me say "This game is awful and I am not going to play it." But there are enough frustrating things for me to say "God damn it--I could kill myself I am so mad," and still want to play the game for some reason. :(

Small things like slow/flawed weapon switching. I mean, seriously. Do they really think people are going to want to have to scroll down through the weapons and then click on the one they want? It doesn't sound too bad, but when you are in a situation where an enemy pops out from behind a wall and you are holding your ammo-dropping pack, it's not the best time to try to fiddle around and try to choose your weapons. Add the unresponsive menus into the mix and you have a serious problem on your hands. Yes, I know you can press the numbers on the keyboard, but I honestly don't think that works very well. It just makes it harder to be walking or doing anything else while switching weapons and the position of the weapon usually depends on what else you have added to your arsenal.

Another annoying thing is trying to quit the game when a round has just ended. I swear it is unbelievable. It shows the scoreboard. I press escape, and it goes back into the game. I then press escape again and it brings up the loading menu window, then the main menu/servers screen finally appears (also, why does it load the servers over every time? I mean you press on a server and it says "Error," then it refreshes all the servers again. It hasn't changed much in 3 seconds!). I then press the quit button and it jumps back to the loading screen for the next map of the game. Then I have to hold down the escape button until it says "Unloading Resources". Then I wait. I'm brought back to the same menu, and can finally quit the game. It shouldn't be that hard.

There are also some things I just think could be changed for a better game. I don't like having to pick a certain type of soldier. I like to mix the weapons and accessories. Would that really change the experience that much? I don't think it would. And where did the planes go? That was the coolest part of BF2. I would just go into an empty map and take off and land in the planes. It was by far the coolest flight simulator ever. If they could take the code they used for that and it create a real, more complex flight simulator out of it, I would buy it instantly.

What they need is some sort of multiplayer game that places you in the position of a secret infiltration group of the military, where you jump from an airplane at like 10,000 feet and glide down to an enemy base and try to set up a bomb or something.

I think most people don't like the IGA because it just blatant money grabbing from EA, the game is pretty pricey itself compared to other PC games AND it has advertisements. Shooting them isn't going to stop EA making money from them.

To rent a ranked server you have to pay the server company some money. For it to be an official ranked server the server company has to pay EA some money, in return, EA advertise on the server. The server owners are basically paying EA to make money off thier server, you should either pay for your ranked server, and have no adverts, or get a discount price and have advertisements.

My copy should be arriving this week so I can see if it's as good as people say it is.

That's a good point.

Advertisements aside, I really wish the game had more responsive menues. There's just something about them that makes me feel like I have to press down really hard for anything to work. That's really my biggest gripe, and I'd like to know if anyone has similar/contrasting opinions.

Yeah it was like that in BF2.

Just got it today, patched and played and am enjoying it alot, much better than BF2 IMO. Now I've played it properly I can see the improvements and it's much more than just a BF2 patch. The game has a completely different feel.

Got my free rank up from being a BF2 vet (not that it made much difference), and have been getting tons of medals and stuff. I like how you get points for achieving stuff, when I was the sniper I got about 3 of the 5 kill streak and 5 headshot pins so it really helps boost the scoring.

Unlock system is pretty cool IMO, the helicopter thingies are actually quite easy to control, although I find the game isn't as vehicle based as BF2 was, if you had two tanks coming into a capture point and all you had were infantry, you were screwed unless everyone respawned as anti-tank.

I also like the new class system, each class now seems useful, things like the engineer before weren't used so much, and spec-ops, assault and medic were pretty much the same apart from thier special abilities.

I've seen a few advertisements, but they arn't actually real ads, just placeholders ('join the EU forces' posters, etc.) so they havn't turned them on in europe yet it seems.

I also really like how they give you extra points for doing things in a team, there seems to be more teamwork going on in 2142 than the was on BF2.

Overall excellent game, I feel dirty for saying it, but I like pot noodles too, guess I'm just a filthy person.

What I am annoyed about though is not being able to put the res at 1280x1024, thats got to be the most common res, so why isn't it there? I have also seen a few annoying bugs, and am yet again annoyed about having those publisher and developer logo vids, at least make them skippable like most games.

Delete/rename the .bik files stored at \mods\bf2142\Movies in your game directory to get rid of the annoying movies.

bit of an odd review as each screen shot is not in the same place first time i seen it done in here

all servers have now been updated so thay should not crash as much are's has not for 2 days soo i guess thay fixed something with it been crashing 4 times an day and the one that emptys the server out is the 2am one
-----------------
EA Downloader that is now called EA link I Extremely recommend you do not buy the game from it they have **** download servers (its an 2gb download and if the EA Link relogs it does not auto resume download you have to resume it your self and then threes an chance that the download is error in it and will start downloading from the start) and if they brake something in EA link it most likely brake the game and every time you start 2142, EA link auto starts dono why but I renamed the ea link exe to something else so it does not

Get an hard copy of the game then you should have less problems with the game when trying to install it

any one still waiting for Quake wars to come as soon as that comes out wunder if 2142 will die off as it be something new in it

just received my copy of this game today, after my fellow enemy territory buddies decided to move away from WW2 and get somethign new.

Really lookin forward to it, and hope that this can bring something new to multiplayer until quake wars comes out next year (which WILL effectively wipe out the BF series and reduce them to yesteryear)
