But lets not forget that there's a website to run, too.

The reality is that Tim (and many others) work incredibly long hours to bring you guys the latest news & reviews. Leaving the office at 8pm would actually be an "early night" for Tim - last night it was after 9pm before we headed home, for example.

Let's just say, a 9-5 Mon-Fri job this sure ain't. We do it because we love it - there's no clocking off when you're a bit-techer.

its a nice server, but how hi is the CPU and the DDR load? i think not everyting is in use.

With only one server on there it's not even breaking into a sweat...

Nevermind breaking a sweat, the heartbeat isn't even above 'rest' yet. :D

One minor point:

I had XP as a games server and found the max connections limit of XP limited it to 10 players.

You can manually change the setting of max connections in windows thru command line.

By the way, we're looking at getting some regular 'organised' CS nights going - drop your thoughts in this thread

well i never knew that ;)

1 question i gotta ask, do you make the news topics manually, because frequently the link is wrong, or not there yet

Just wondering beacause surely your PHP dude could make some sort of script to make this automatically, saving some time too ;)

is this server 100 tick (i think it is) beacause 100 tick should really just be limited to clan matches, and few players (<16) beacause there is so much CPU and bandwidth usage with 100 tick

66 tick really should be fine for any pub server, ill see if i can drag up the link off the valve forums for this
Tim S 5th September 2006, 23:11 Quote
It's at 100 tick at the moment, but then we're hardly short of CPU power. Maybe when we start to get more servers on the box, we'll have to drop back to 66 tick to ensure that it's a better experience for all box-wide.

well i looked around

Unfortunetly my godly rates thread (well not mine, but my reference) has been deleted, or gone, or i cant find it - which sucks, i did however looks on srcds.com and found this quote
Quote:
There are sme unknown lag issues, it's weird everything seems to be running ok if you look at stats of the server but ingame you get a really weird kinda lag. This doesnt always happen but it is known to happen above 20 slots I thought... So I think best to do is run 66 tick. Then you're sure it's right
Quote:
The only thing is running that many slots on a pc with 100 tick can cause problems just because of the performance demands. That and last I heard 100 tick can start to cause some od, random issues on some set ups. I have always just used 66 tick on my servers. It has about the same outcome (still plenty for a pub) but saves the hardware a lot.

There is a good guide at http://www.serverwiki.org/index.php/Advanced_Tickrate now though

Seems like a good server, I get nice low pings to it too, shame I can't play :(

Not played CS:S for ages but have been on a couple of servers this week and they all seem superfast, as in you run around like a nutter has Valve upped it a gear or is it because have I been playing too much GRAW which is at a slower past, I can't keep up with the speed, its like source is new to me all over again.

Anyway enjoyed being cannon fodder for a bit ([SWLG] Fatboy)
Stwongbad 6th September 2006, 00:32 Quote
Oh man cant wait to play! GO BIT TECH! wonder what /my/ pings would be like you know as im on the other side of the pond ^^;

heh heh

its strange having a PC with no gui, or moniter/keyboard/mouse connected to it
Infact that PC needs just 2 cables, Power and Ethernet
Ive learnt so much having to do all my work via SSH

Glad to help ;) you say that to 1 wiki article, and then another and another
Before you know it youve read most of the wiki :p and wasted a week of your life too :p

jeez since when was DOD:S so popular :p
Its an orite game, but i never thought it was that great, haven't bought it yet

DOD is also OK, and i recon in a way better, but DOD:S works properly, so i guess that will win any day

Very cool. I NEED to get my mouse back, since I don't envision CS:S a la trackpad to be very enjoyable (and by envision... well... I've tried it. it sucks). The fact that I haven't played in about a year won't help much

ot - are those case badges for sale anywhere or anything?

further ot - is the Bit "office" a metaphor of sorts, or do you actually have a physical HQ? I'd always assumed the former, but not being too savvy in the geography of England, I've also assumed you're not that close to each other too.
