Graphics

Usually when we review a PC game here on bit-tech, we spend a decent amount of time talking about how the graphics engine works and how different video cards perform in relation to each other and to other game entines. However, this time we're going to be briefer than usual, for the simple reason that Prey doesn't really bring anything to the table that we haven't seen before.

Prey uses the Doom 3 engine, which Id Software created for the titular game back in 2004. The engine features high quality textures, anti-aliasing and anisotropoic filtering options but also scales back well for lower performance cards. Prey uses also those features but doesn't really do anything different with them.

Similar menu options exist for configuring your graphics setup, and performance is also very similar. If you can run Quake 4 happily, you can run this happily. Human Head have added in some extra options, including the ability to sharpen normal maps for crisper details at high resolutions, and have made specular lighting tweakable, depending on your card's ability to handle it.
