I grabbed it as soon as the files were up, it's good fun and slighty differnt to the current big shooters. I noticed the lack of crosshair and ability to jump but they grew on me very fast, for a start you you have to learn to aim better making you generally more accurate, and aslo you dont get the boucing idiots like in all the top FPS games, which is nice :). It's just all about fast reactions, accuracy and nice simple gampley.

Its never going to be like Goldeneye on the N64 but it's a pretty fun and it can only improve ;) ...

Quote webbyman 3rd January 2006, 19:09
im gonna have to download it, as soon as i can be assed :o

looks good though :P looks quite a bit of work still needs to be done to it though.

its a pretty good mod, very well made, but it doesnt have much of that goldeneye feel IMO. i bet it just needs some more weapons and maps, then itl feel like home. :P

Been playing it for a few days, graphics are slick ad gameplay does remind me of the goold ol' 64 days. It does need a bit more additions and tweaks before it gains most of that 64 feel, though.

Kirsten's preview/review doesn't do the game justice, well, the screenshots anyway. I think the screenshots should have been taken at a much higher resolution with AA and AF enabled to show its true potential - those screenies would put me off the game if i hadn't already played it.

I love it but I cant pic up the Golden Gun and I hate that theres no crosshair.
Quote kiljoi 4th January 2006, 06:17
The game wins so far, but you can tell it's an Alpha. I can't wait till we get to play the first official release. Hopefully the crosshair will show up by then, so I don't have to draw one on my screen.

And mines. We need mines.
Quote Nature 4th January 2006, 12:14
Humbug to all ye crosshair whiners! Friggin' conceptualize! Did medal of honor have ye crosshair.....bu dewia!!!

But I feel that someone has molested the heritage of this game by revoking the hat! THE HAT!!!!! THE HAT!! THA THA HAT!!!!!!!!!!!......and also no proxim mines

This game has prompted me to leave this godless country, I need freakin' games!!! Tokyo, here I come!!!

Some servers have crosshair and jump enabled. I prefer both off TBH, just makes the gameplay a little bit more interesting. :)

All the people on servers i've been on who were moaning about the lack of crosshair just had a bad aim already

I think this iwll be a huge hit once it comes out of beta...

N64 goldeneye had aim assist, so it didnt need crosshairs. aim assist made that game 100 times easier, and so now that there is no aim assist or crosshairs makes it harder for most people.
Quote Kipman725 4th January 2006, 17:01
dosen't need a cross hair all the time, just a button to go into a kind of aim mode like the n64 version had, there should be some movement penalty for this otherwise people will aim all the time.

as for jump, things have moved on, it now feels unatrual not to have jump. Perhapse a toned down jump? small hops not css style leaping?

depends if the server has it enabled or not

Here are some high quality (max settings, 6x AA, 16x AF, 1280x1024) screen grabs from GE:S.

View the full size PNG (1.4MB).

View the full size PNG (1.5MB).

I didn't get any action shots because my computer doesn't handle all that filtering too well, so I die before I can get the screen grab.

Go to a stationary store, buy a pack of Blu Tack (usually for sticking posters up), walk up to a wall in GE:S, take a shot, see where the shot lands, stick a tiny bit of Blu Tack there. Viola, a crosshair.

:)

Well that's just it. Aim mode in the n64 version made you stand-still, which made you a sitting duck if you didn't use cover porperly. If you simply replace jump with the AIM mode then you have a fairly accurate control replication of the n64 version.

I'm just hoping that there's no "permanent-crouch" in the final version...
