hi, i bought the game yesterday (knowing that) my pc was totally fubar'd, so i reformatted, just to play it

started the game up, 1024x768 (or whatever it is) with everything on high, and 6x AA

damn it looks good, just wish they included 1280x1024 instead of 1280x960, as i hate running @ that

the gameplay is alright, but i only played for a short amount of time, the demo was alot of fun due to there being so many servers.

I, for one, can't wait to the see awesome 'FX' that a new processor is going to bring to my system next week. I reckon I'll be able to get at least 57 FPS.

Hrm, played the demo and didn't particularly like it, but going off the strength of this review and several others, plus the opinions of friends, I actually bought the game today. Worst purchase ever. Menus are hard to use, it's generally laggy when navigating round the game, and the guns are incredibly inaccurate even when firing in single shot bursts when lying down.

LOL

well, i love the game, it works well, the guns are accurate, i was lying down with an AK, full auto mode, emptied all 30 rounds on target (test target was my mates truck) half way accross the map!

i love it, downside is i admit, it is a bit laggy on some servers, and it appears not to like my moust (drivers maybe?) as it sometimes freezes the controls :S which is annoying, i think im gonna get a wired mouse to test it!

its a damn good game, but i was hoping for co-op mode in multiplayer, so me and my mates could LAN it up and have a laugh and practice teamwork, but no

hopefully they add co-op mode in a later patch, and maybe a few more other modes, as 1942 had like 8 modes!

same here m8, just add " +szx 1280 +szy 1024" to the command line of ur shortcut and ull be basking in 1280 1024 goodness
Quote Lucidity 26th June 2005, 16:19
I'll admit I didn't read the entire article, but from what I read you failed to mention some huge pitfalls of the game 1) Tanks are way too powerfull, it takes multiple hits with the Anti-Tank weapon, I can simply dominate a game if I am driving a tank or personel carrier. 2) Fighter Jets and Helicopters are hard to control which is a pro and a con 3) Artillery and Jets can bomb spawn points far too easily spawn points, either you should spawn covered or the bombing of the spawn points shouldn't be allowed, I find myself dying up to 3 or 4 times in a row while spawning, this gets me to damage on Jets, having to hit them multiple times with the heat seaking missiles is horrid, they can just fly by the spawn, get hit once but kill 4-5 people, do it again, maybe blow up, and if they do they just respond to do it again.

nice write up

however i find 1280x1024 (with the little extra thingy added to the shortcut) 2xAA and 8xAF on a 6800GT (albeit at 400/1.1) to be fine, probably not 60fps most of the time, but to me its fluid at all times bar the hitching which isnt to do with the GPU (net lag, swapping etc)

also i have everything on HIGH except dynamic shadows and lights which are on medium, as a result i find everything to be awesome, and silky smooth. (rig in sig) also it seems turning down dynamic shadows and lights really does reduce load times considerably

veryfying takes longer than the actual loading..........whatever its doing

6800 GT @ 400/1100 - ala 6800 Ultra : http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2005/06/22/geforce_7800gtx/3.html

Have you found a good stress point in the game and played all of the maps? The map I've used (I forget the name - its second from the bottom in the list) seemed to be a little more intensive than the others due to the masses of fogging that the GPU is having to do. :)

not really

there was one map, cant remember the name, desert type map with the USA carrier out in the sea, and then theres loads of hills, and an airstrip near the back ish, (not gulf of oman) and i changed view to 3rd person in the tank, and it was definately chugging then

i really havent come across anything major, ok the first 5 mins sucks abit with the lag, and the HDD doing a few flips, then its all go from there.

havent had chance to play all the maps, there arent many 64 player servers with good pings for me either, but ill play some more see how things go
Quote frodo 26th June 2005, 23:36
annoying thing is the lack of multiplayer modes :( i REALLY hope they are working on patches for this

they shouldnt be working on a console version, they should be satisfying their main market (or their previously main market) as if it were a bit better thought out it would be great

i HATE not being able to make single player games, aka not doing instant battle!

i must admit, my pc does not lag at all, even @ stock, will find out when i run it @ 1280x1024 and what not. if it does lag ill just oc a bit more

i just hope ea and dice start releasing BIG patches that fix the HUGE issues, it sucks that they released it like it is, as i was REALLY looking forward to it (so much i reformatted my pc and reinstalled everything just to get it to work fully)

i've just played it for about 20mins
its not bad, few things let it down imo
the horrible horrible inaccuracy of the weapons
i was standing about 10ft away from an AI soldier and emptied about 50 rounds into him with the saw, ran out of ammo, and had to switch to the pistol to kill him
WTF?! theres something very wrong when at point blank range you get more kills with a pistol and the saw...

Use very short bursts. Single fire mode on the guns is far more accurate.
Quote Hamish 27th June 2005, 00:42
yea but still, bullets dont go 90 degrees 2ft from the end of the barrel no matter how long the burst is :p
Quote frodo 27th June 2005, 01:21
A) were you lying down? B) were you firing 50 shots in full auto

if you werent lying down, theres one reason, as the saw is very accurate and deadly when used properly

if you fired them in one huge burst theres your answer, the recoil goes insane and spras bullets everywhere, try popping of bursts of 3-5 shots, dependant on range, as it allows the weapon to recover
Quote TMM 27th June 2005, 01:39
The game runs nice and smooth on my system, though i seem to need more ram to play at 1280x1024 4x AA - it runs at 80-99fps for about 4 seconds then lags for about 1 second, then continues at 80-99fps and lags again and again for about 1 second each with 3-4 seconds inbetween... lol. Its seems to be harddrive lag - the game fills the ram pretty much, then the graphics card probably fills its 256mb, asking for ram and then over all the harddrive kicks in, wrecking everything, lmao

1152x864 2xAA everything at max (except for AA ofcoarse..) gives a constant 99fps (according to fraps). :)

no i was standing 10 ft away from him, i was so close he filled half the screen :p

tbh i've played for another hour or so and gotten the hang of it more, the inaccuracy is still annoying but much less so when using singleshot
Quote frodo 27th June 2005, 11:50
standing up with the saw is useless, the recoil is unmanageable, even at closest range

if you have EVER used a REAL saw in life, you would know, the weight of the gun AND the power together make it impossible to actually stabilise the weapon standing up

on the game, just lay down, and pop of single or 3 shot bursts, try using the ak47/101 as thats a good weapon to play around with, say the assault one, as you can just put it in auto mode, stand still, pop of 10 shots in a row, move on grab the grenade blow some stuff up, switch back etc etc you get my flow

just dont shoot the saw or rpk or the other lmg's without laying down

Sigh, RIP soldner! Best game ever!!
Quote Hamish 28th June 2005, 08:04
Soldner really had promise, but in hte end it was ****
the idea and the early betas looked like they could've been really awesome
but they never bothered to fix most of the bugs, it was a horribly buggy game and graphically it was a bit naff
bit like everything else JoWood have been involved with :p
