Previously exclusive Nvidia board partner announces that it’s going to start producing graphics cards with ATI GPUs next year
Nvidia appears to be having a tough time keeping hold of its exclusive board partners lately. Not only did Gainward open its doors to the red team earlier this year, but now XFX has also announced that it’s going to start producing Radeon HD 4000 graphics cards in early 2009.
In a statement, XFX explained that ‘this new collaboration enables our R&D teams to work with a variety of new technologies, specifically the award-winning ATI Radeon HD 4000 series GPUs.’ The company also added that it was looking forward to ‘bringing you a variety of new products that meet your unique and specific needs,’
XFX’s vice president of sales in the UK, Cy Brown, expanded on this, telling Custom PC that the company is 'right now working on our signature “XXX” branded, factory overclocked and warranted products – we aim to bring a little of our magic to the ATI proposition backed up by our 5-Star service and support.'
Brown added that ‘we are all excited at XFX about this development.' He explained that 'we can see benefits to all sides, but most importantly we want to deliver this benefit to our customers by offering them a real choice. Whether they want to purchase an Nvidia or ATI based graphics card, we want to deliver to them simply the best graphics card for their budget and requirements, be it raw performance or HD Video transcoding; for work or for play.'
AMD also seems to be pretty chuffed with the board partner’s decision. The company’s senior vice president of its graphics products group, Rick Bergman, said that ‘XFX is synonymous with the extreme performance that enthusiast’s crave.’ He also added that XFX’s ‘decision to partner with AMD and launch AMD GPU-based XFX graphics cards speaks to the level of excellence achieved by the ATI Radeon HD 4000 series.’
However, XFX still plans to continue working closely with Nvidia. Brown told us that 'our partnership with Nvidia will remain as strong as
ever, with our products continuing to reflect our commitment to meeting
the needs of customers. However, with more strings to our graphics bow,
we now have a range and choice that suits the whole market and the
diversity of our customer base.'
