Spartan 300 features a 3.5GHz overclock, a Radeon HD 4850 and 2GB of OCZ PC2-8500 Reaper memory

YoYoTech Spartan 300

Most Custom PC readers will readily tell you that you can get a much faster PC for less money by carefully selecting your components and overclocking them, but it’s not often you see a pre-overclocked gaming rig for just £499. That’s the price of YoYoTech’s new Spartan 300, and it hasn’t got a skimpy specs list either.

The machine's CPU may only be a lowly 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo E7200, but YoYoTech will be overclocking this to 3.5GHz as standard, using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro cooler. The overclock will be set in the BIOS of the machine’s MSI P43 motherboard as standard, and it will also be backed by a 12-month warranty.

So what else do you get for £499? Well, there’s 2GB of OCZ PC2-8500 Reaper memory, a 512MB Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 graphics card and the machine even comes housed in an airflow-friendly Antec Three Hundred case. This is kitted with a 550W PSU, which might not offer a huge amount of power, but it’s perfectly adequate for an overclocked Core 2 Duo and a Radeon HD 4850. Also included in the PC is a 320GB Samsung SpinPoint hard drive and a DVD burner.

YoYoTech is clearly proud of the Spartan 300, and claims that ‘You might buy a “famous name” PC for £499 – but its performance will surely crumble against the Spartan.’ Are you looking for a gaming PC on a tight budget? If so, would you consider buying a PC such as this, or would you prefer to build it yourself? Let us know in the comments section below.
