Intel’s new CPU could be launched in just a couple of months
It looks as though we may be getting our hands on Intel’s first forthcoming Nehalem CPUs (codenamed Bloomfield) sooner than we thought if the rumour mill is to believed. Although Intel hasn’t made any official announcements about the release date of Nehalem yet, a leaked roadmap showed that it was scheduled to be released in the final quarter of this year. However, the rumour is that this has now been brought forward to September this year.
The Taiwanese gossip diggers at DigiTimes claim to have spoken to motherboard makers who’ve filled them in on the details. According to the site, ‘Intel's Nehalem-based Bloomfield processors will now launch in September along with X58 chipsets.’ However, the site notes that this will just be a launch, and that we’ll have to wait until October before the new chips are available to buy.
Earlier last week, Nvidia announced that Intel’s forthcoming X58 chipset would be able to support SLI through Nvidia’s nForce 200 chip, allowing compatibility with both SLI and CrossFire dual-graphics technologies. Nehalem will be Intel’s first desktop CPU architecture to feature an integrated memory controller, and will also feature a new socket design (pictured).
