Custom PC folding team takes number 8 spot

After years of hard folding, team Custom PC moves up another position in the world’s top 10

New Folding@home GPU client

It’s not easy at the top, and while this statement won’t elicit a lot of sympathy from world famous rock stars, it’s certainly true of the world’s top 10 folding teams. The last time we moved up the leaderboard was back on 27 July 2007, when we took the number 9 spot from 2CPU.com. However, your hard work has paid off, as we’ve now nabbed the number 8 spot from Team Rage3D, so it’s time to celebrate in whatever way you see fit.

The only bad news is that we’ve got a fighter on our tail in the form of DL.TV, who is poised to take us down a peg in around eight months according to the stats. At our current production rate, it looks like we’re not going to move up another place for another 3.7 years too. That’s no reason to give up, though. Taking the number 8 spot is an amazing achievement for the team, especially now that inpharm has had to stop his folding farm. Contributing your work units will not only help keep team Custom PC in the top 10, but it will provide invaluable medical research.

We’ve produced an incredible 250,153,293 points for Folding@home since the team began back in 2004, and we’re currently producing an average of 444,602 points a day. Custom PC would like to take this opportunity to give a big thank you to everyone who shared their spare clock cycles with our folding team, and we hope that you’ll all continue folding for us. If you fancy revelling in our glory for a bit, then you can check out the folding leaderboard here.

What is folding?

Don’t know what all this folding stuff is about? Folding@home is basically a distributed computing app that uses your spare clock cycles to simulate how proteins fold for the purposes of medical research. You can download the client from here and join Custom PC’s team by using the team ID: 35947. If you want any tips and tricks on upping your production rate, or just to introduce yourself to others on the team, then it’s also worth checking out our folding forum.
