1,200W OCZ PSU has largest single +12V rail

Single 90A rail will mean you don’t have to worry about power-budgeting for multiple high-end graphics cards

OCZ PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 120

Following its purchase of PC Power & Cooling earlier this year, OCZ is now attempting to get a firm footing in the high-end PSU market. The latest product to come from the takeover is the PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1200, which is not only notable for having a 1,200W (continuous) rating, but also for having a huge 90A (100A peak) single +12V rail.

OCZ claims that its ‘trail blazing approach to +12V rail design ends the need to budget power "across the rails" as is the case with the less effective multi-rail design found in the vast majority of high-performance PSUs on the market today.’ The company also said that the single rail would result in ‘optimum power distribution to all components.’

Nvidia has certified the PSU for powering two power-hungry GeForce 8800 Ultra cards in SLI configuration, and the PSU has an efficiency rating of 83 per cent. Meanwhile, the +5V still has a hefty allocation of 30A, and OCZ claims that the power supply can even cope with 1,300W at peak load.

This isn’t the first PSU launch to come with a large +12V rail in recent times; Silverstone announced a PSU with an 85A rail earlier this year. However, this is another move that shows that owners of high-end PCs may seriously be considering moving away from multi-rail power supplies.
