IDF: Head of Intel dismisses AMD's triple core threat

Implies that triple-core CPUs are just quad-core CPUs with one core disabled

Intel CEO Paul Otellini dismissed AMD as a threat at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF), whether the company has triple-core CPUs or not.

When asked what he thought about triple-core processors in a question and answer session following his keynote speech, Otellini paused and then bluntly replied: 'We see a distinct advantage in having all the cores on our die work.' This implies that he thinks that AMD's triple-core CPUs are just quad-core CPUs with one core disabled.

Otellini took the chance to have another swipe at AMD in the session when someone asked a question about 'Intel's nearest competitor,' and was clearly talking about AMD, but Otellini replied: 'Who? IBM?'
