If your system is struggling to play Far Cry 2 with a smooth frame rate, Phil Hartup has the remedy for your stuttering graphics.
So what's the best route to a slicker game speed if your system is struggling with Far Cry 2? The most bruising setting with the least discernible reward is anti-aliasing. If your PC can't cope with multiple enemies and a brush fire, you should consider scaling this back, or doing without it. You can make up for the lack of anti-aliasing slightly by increasing the resolution, and our tests show that this didn't damage the frame rate too badly. If you aim for the key general settings, you'll make a real killing in terms of extra speed, although you'll also lose some of the nice-looking effects.
Thankfully, Far Cry 2 doesn't take many serious downward spikes in the frame rate, so you can be confident that your average frame rate won't be too far above your minimum. This makes it easier to fine-tune your settings. If you aim for an average frame rate in the mid-30s when walking around, you should have enough frames to spare for tackling a brush fire and gun battle without any visible slowdown.
