If you really want to take on a hi-fi at its own game then you should aim to make your PC silent, or at least very quiet. This means looking for a low-noise CPU cooler - you could even consider using a solid-state disk instead of a hard disk. This way, your PC goes one better than even a dedicated CD player, which still has a mechanical CD transport that creates noise.
