I think it has somthing to do with your audience, too. I've not been there, but I'm betting that the MSDN blogs are targeted at developers and enterprise users, etc. Professionals in other words.
The Dell blogs on the other hand seem to cater to the general public which as we all know contains a large percentage of morons, trolls and flamers. Granted, they could have done a better job of presenting quality content worthy of discussion, but I think that's a secondary issue. The bottom line is that Joe Public is stupid and trying to have a conversation with him or her is inviting the worst humanity has to offer.
