Gaming 15 - The StarCraft 2 Argument

Posted on 6th Aug 2010 at 14:46 by Podcast with 29 comments

Podcast
Is StarCraft 2 any good? Harry thinks so, explaining that he loves the varied missions and excellent side-content that bolsters the singleplayer campaign. Joe, on the other hand, reckons that the plot is predictable, the writing dire and that the gameplay hasn't moved on since the original.

Now, Joe and Harry go head to head in a podcast that critics are calling 'mildly entertaining' and 'a bit louder and easier to hear than usual'.

Meanwhile, Alex talks about indie art game, Limbo, and ponders whether the games media has a tendancy to get hyperbolic about certain indie games.

On top of that there's also much complaining about the work of Tim Burton, plus some puzzled looks when Alex asks just what American McGee ever did to become famous.

We've also got the usual Guess the Screenshot competition, where you could win a fancy SteelSeries headset, plus reader mail and discussion of many other inane topics.

Gaming Podcast 14 - Of Adverts and Atheism

Posted on 29th Jun 2010 at 14:12 by Podcast with 9 comments

Podcast
It's podcast time, so grab your earphones and pump up the volume for another series of rants and conversations from the bit-tech team. This time Joe and Alex are joined by new team member Paul Goodhead as he makes his Gaming Podcast debut, plus Matthew Lambert who has joined for a few weeks of work experience.

What do Matthew and Paul think about working with at bit-tech and how have the team coped with the ejection of England from the 2010 World Cup? We guarantee you won't find out in this podcast, because we don't talk about it!

Instead, we talk about other far more interesting things - like the merits and faults of APB's in-game advertising, the on-going Steam sale and playing games as an atheist. See? Interesting!

On top of that we've got the usual competition and reader mail stuff, all finishing up with what Alex oh-so-nicely refers to as "the worst end to a podcast we've ever done."

Gaming Podcast 13 - Harry Singing

Posted on 21st May 2010 at 15:38 by Podcast with 21 comments

Podcast
The new Gaming Podcast is finally here and it has much to recommend it - educated discussion, witty banter, Joe's relaxed charm and natural charisma. Also, Harry singing sponsorship messages in the highest voice he can manage.

Consider that an official warning.

Up for discussion in this episode of the Gaming Podcast are some of the most interesting bits of news from the past week or two in the games industry. We talk about the launch of Green Man Gaming, the fact that Steam is now available on the Mac and also why Joe doesn't like DotA games very much.

On top of that we've got the usual Guess the Screenshot competition, with this week's prize of a Steel Series gaming headset up for grabs.

As always, we want to hear your thoughts and opinions on the podcast, so send things in to the usual podcast address or simply drop your thoughts in the forums.

Use the links below to listen in and good luck on surviving the anguish which is Harry's interpretation of a melody...

Posted on 30th Mar 2010 at 17:20 by Podcast with 5 comments

Podcast
After an incredibly long break caused by a mixture of holidays and laziness, we're back with another Custom PC and Bit-tech.net Gaming Podcast. Yay!

Our 11th episode unfortunately kicks off with some sad news as Clive, Harry and Joe say goodbye to Richard, who has embarked on stranger tides for lands afar. Well, after a stopover in Wales anyway.

Not ones to dwell for long though, they quickly move on to other topics and set themselves to discussing all the latest topics the games industry has to offer. Ubisoft DRM! Just Cause 2! Why C&C4 is rubbish! And, um, The Witcher!

On top of that we announce the long overdue winner to the last Guess The Screenshot competition, wade through your emails and tweets - and Clive even takes the time to try his hand at tech support. It's all thrilling stuff, so use the links below to choose how you want your ears to be assaulted and then let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Gaming Podcast 9 - AvP, Heavy Rain and Hellgate

Posted on 19th Jan 2010 at 16:05 by Podcast with 13 comments

Podcast
The colossus which is the bit-tech gaming podcast may be slow to wake after the excitement of new year, but when it gets going then there's little that will stop it!

Which is our lame way of saying that we're sorry the first podcast of 2010 is a bit late, but that we hope it's exciting enough to make up for it. It should be anyway, with discussion covering all the games we're looking forward to next year, the merits and flaws of Steam and a whole batch of reader mail.

There's also a story that Harry tells about Joe which is totally made up and which nobody should listen to or believe. Says Joe.

On top of that we've got the usual Guess The Screenshot competition - though it's not the only competition we have on bit-tech at the moment by a long way. Check out the Competitions Hub for more chances to win prizes.

Use the links below to listen to the podcast and be sure to subscribe in iTunes to make sure you don't miss any future casts! Oh, and let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Gaming 7 - Modern Warfare 2 and getting into the industry

Posted on 18th Nov 2009 at 11:05 by Podcast with 14 comments

Podcast
Better late than never they say, but clearly 'they' have never worked in publishing... Anyway, apologies for not getting this up earlier - some naughty podcasters and heavy deadline schedules have delayed us. Still, it's worth the wait as Harry, Joe, Rich and Clive talk about that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 review.

Gaming Podcast 6 - IWNet, Windows 7 and Yak Meat

Posted on 29th Oct 2009 at 11:27 by Podcast with 11 comments

Podcast
With Alex and Tim both available for a podcast this week, we sit down to discuss all the latest gaming news and controversies - from Activision's unveiling of IWNet for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to games compatibility in Windows 7.

That's not all we've got going on though - we also sit down for a quick snack of Chinese Yak meat live on tape and hand out the first of a new set of prizes in our Guess The Screenshot competition. Fun times!

On top of all that we've also got the usual Reader Mail and we finally talk about how good games packaging used to be when everything came in a huge cardboard box.

In the next podcast we'll be discussing how to get into the games industry and whether it's more important to have a recognised qualification or some experience in the real world. We'd love to hear your thoughts on all this, so drop your opinions in the forums or send them to the usual email address - Podcast@CustomPC.co.uk. Please be sure to mark your emails as 'Gaming Podcast'.
