Free Games I Like: Home

Another short post for another short game – Home is a tiny pixel-art game from Increpare about what it’s like to fall apart, bit by bit.

There isn’t a huge amount to say about this game as the entire experience lasts just five minutes at most and the artwork and mechanics on show have been streamlined to the extreme. Everything in the game has been trimmed down until all that’s left is a clunky orange graphic that would look outdated on a Spectrum.

The idea is simple: your name is Charles and you’ve just been put into an old people’s home. Your life is simple and easy, which is good because you’re not really capable of much. All you have to do is manage your four simple needs; food, friendship, going to the toilet and getting a good night's rest. Simple.

Download The CustomPC Media Benchmarks Here

Posted at 11:30 by Clive Webster with 17 comments

Clive Webster
A couple years ago, CustomPC made its own suite of benchmarks to test motherboards, PCs, laptops and so on. We wanted to create a set of tests which aped how people use their PCs and would show the benefits (or not) of faster hardware and overclocking in a way that was relevant to real-world use.

One of the most important elements, apart from the obvious stuff above, was that the benchmark suite must be distributable and completely self-contained. We've therefore used Open Source applications, all of which install into a standard folder (with no entries into the Registry, or links to any OS services or applications). This means that you can download the benchmarks, install them and run them without any outside influences from OS updates and so forth.

Download the first batch of bit-tech & Custom PC wallpapers

One of the great things about being in the Dennis headquarters is that bit-tech now has access to the photo studio and photography team, who do all of the magazine cover shoots using some quite interesting lighting tricks.

Over the coming months, the plan is to spend some of the studio time allocated to the Custom PC magazine cover shoots on creating some more artistic shots that we would've been unable to do on our own... mainly due to lack of skill and know-how, but we're learning how some of the shots were created and hope to reveal some more details for those of you who frequent our photography forum.

In light of this, we have created the first set of wallpapers based on some of the photos that have been used on the Custom PC cover in the last few months, as well as the new photo we created for our monthly hardware buyer's guide.

Click on to download the wallpapers!
