Posted on 17th Dec 2010 at 15:08 by Podcast with 15 comments

Podcast
It's the end of another week and with it comes another podcast to help you fill the empty canvas that is the weekend. This week saw Harry, Joe, Paul and returning team member Ben Hardwidge sit down to discuss the latest goings on and happenings in the world of gaming.

First on the agenda was our thoughts on the results of the bit-gamer game of the year vote. Joe and Harry were both pretty happy with the game that nabbed the top spot but we also talk about some of the games that we thought would be higher but weren’t.

Hardware 16 - The RAM Raiders

Posted on 9th Dec 2010 at 14:19 by Podcast with 29 comments

Podcast
We're back on air with another hardware podcast. This week Paul, James, Harry and Antony get together to discuss some of the latest goings on in the world of computer hardware.

First up on the agenda is the new graphics card releases from Nvidia - the GTX 580 and GTX 570. Harry has spent a lot of time with both cards over the last few weeks, so he walks us through what's new about the two cards.

James also puts Paul on the spot by grilling him on what he's been up to with the Sandy Bridge processors in our labs. Obviously we weren't able to go into too many details as Intel is keeping Sandy Bridge performance numbers top secret at the moment, but we share what we can.

Finally we move on to talk about what is currently happening in the world of RAM as the market has seen a number of high profile launches over the past couple of weeks. We also squeeze in the usual guess the hardware competition and a couple of your questions too.

Posted on 2nd Nov 2010 at 11:52 by Podcast with 11 comments

Podcast
Yes, we've finally found time to record a new hardware podcast. Once you're over the shock you'll be able to hear the dulcet tones of Clive, Paul, Alex and James discussing the current goings on in the world of PC hardware.

We start by taking a look at the launch of ATI's Radeon HD 6870 1GB and HD 6850 1GB, discussing where they fit into the market and why we've chosen to call them ATI cards instead of AMD cards. Clive also spells out why ATI seems to have broken its naming convention with the two cards.

Gaming Podcast 9 - AvP, Heavy Rain and Hellgate

Podcast
The colossus which is the bit-tech gaming podcast may be slow to wake after the excitement of new year, but when it gets going then there's little that will stop it!

Which is our lame way of saying that we're sorry the first podcast of 2010 is a bit late, but that we hope it's exciting enough to make up for it. It should be anyway, with discussion covering all the games we're looking forward to next year, the merits and flaws of Steam and a whole batch of reader mail.

There's also a story that Harry tells about Joe which is totally made up and which nobody should listen to or believe. Says Joe.

On top of that we've got the usual Guess The Screenshot competition - though it's not the only competition we have on bit-tech at the moment by a long way. Check out the Competitions Hub for more chances to win prizes.

Use the links below to listen to the podcast and be sure to subscribe in iTunes to make sure you don't miss any future casts! Oh, and let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Gaming Podcast 6 - IWNet, Windows 7 and Yak Meat

Posted on 29th Oct 2009 at 11:27 by Podcast with 11 comments

Podcast
With Alex and Tim both available for a podcast this week, we sit down to discuss all the latest gaming news and controversies - from Activision's unveiling of IWNet for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to games compatibility in Windows 7.

That's not all we've got going on though - we also sit down for a quick snack of Chinese Yak meat live on tape and hand out the first of a new set of prizes in our Guess The Screenshot competition. Fun times!

On top of all that we've also got the usual Reader Mail and we finally talk about how good games packaging used to be when everything came in a huge cardboard box.

In the next podcast we'll be discussing how to get into the games industry and whether it's more important to have a recognised qualification or some experience in the real world. We'd love to hear your thoughts on all this, so drop your opinions in the forums or send them to the usual email address - Podcast@CustomPC.co.uk. Please be sure to mark your emails as 'Gaming Podcast'.

Gaming Podcast 5 - Art, Advertising and Attitude

Posted on 15th Oct 2009 at 10:35 by Podcast with 12 comments

Podcast
The fourth Gaming Pocast from the CustomPC and bit-tech team, again hosted by Joe and this time with Harry, Mark and Antony joining in for plenty of discussion about the latest events in the games industry across all platforms.

This week we talk about whether games journalists should have to develop games as a qualification, whether games can ever really be considered as an art form and why we've all been put off by the new advertising for Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2.

We also talk about the pending release of Windows 7 and why Joe isn't going to upgrade, as well as whether Valve might have a hidden dark side. Chilling stuff.

We've got a new prize to give away in the competition this week too, so listen closely and if you can guess the game we're describing then send your clearly labelled emails to Podcast@custompc.co.uk - and remember to put 'Gaming Podcast 5' in the subject line, or drop your thoughts in the forums.
