Asus Xtreme Global Summit Competition Week 3 Winners
Posted on 18th Aug 2009 at 16:16 by Alex Watson with 47 comments
So, here we are in the fourth week of the Asus Xtreme Global Summit competition, so we’ve got another five winners to announce. Last week’s post covered Asus’ T.Probe VRM technology and after such a techy post, the question we posed was a fun one:
“The challenge involves coming up with a new name for a Republic of Gamers motherboard - we've seen the Maximus (1, 2 and 3), the Commando, the Crosshair, the Rampage... what should follow this illustrious line-up?”
Read on to see who the winners were after the jump!
This was a fun one to judge, and there were some excellent suggestions that made us actually LOL – although we liked HugoB’s suggestion of the Asus Felix (“ every time you boot it up it displays a random poem”), the fact Hugo’s another journalist means we decided instead to opt for some suggestions from others readers.
Winner 11: wuyanxu
We liked wuyanxu’s argument that “names should have a background”, and we could really see his suggestion of names based on fighter planes being taken up.
Winner 12: bradders2125
Our second winner this week is bradders2125, with three names inspired by the Greeks. Best of all was the “Asus Athena - Goddess of wisdom, warfare, strategy, handicrafts and reason. Kind of sums up some of the things it [a motherboard] gets used for.”
Winner 13: yakyb
Yakyb’s post was one of the funniest in the thread:
“How about the Asus Simba (the powerful version), or the Pumba (the slightly bloated version), or the Timone (the quirky overclocker).”
Winner 14: Omnituens
While we can’t see Asus and Disney getting together for a killer line of overclocking motherboards, we’re all for promoting science here at bit-tech, and wholeheartedly endorse Omnituens’ suggestion of the “Asus Oppenheimer - DESTROYER OF BENCHMARKS”.
Winner 15: flibblesan
This week’s final winner had a trio of good suggestions, including the Asus Behemoth.
Congratulations to all the winners – I’ll be dropping you a PM with further details, so check your forum messages!
We’ve still got five tickets to give away. Stay tuned to the bit-tech blog for your chance to win!

Discuss in the forums ReplyI need to make some new arrangements.
It'll be worth it! On a side note.. why are trains so damn expensive?? :(
Dont go on Friday then you'll have some new bits to play with at the LAN :)
Have you tried checking www.thetrainline.com? And also try and travel after 9:30am...
Yes, of course - you get up to £50 to help you get there, which (we looked into this) will cover most of the UK travelling after 10 am or so... :)
Aww man that sucks seriously. Hope you can work something out. Where are you trying to come from?
Sorry, I forgot to actually read the forum rather than the blog page. I would have worked it out from Stockport!
Edit: Plan is starting to come together.... the main problem is cost, as both my train tickets comes to over £100... which is just lolamount.
Edit Pro Plus: Better plan as emerged, looks like I might be able to make it!
£100 from Manchester to Euston? Thats madness. Probably cheaper on the Megabus.
I am going to come there with an overnight bus from Eurolines, arriving in London at 8AM... then i still need a place to stay the night on friday (anyone? pretty please? ), after which i get up early for another refreshing 10 hour bus ride. The costs are about 120 euro total, so about 50/ish are from my own budget.
Oh well, it'll be fun regardless, and i get to see London, i've never been there. ;)
out of interest, are we going to be able to pay around with P55 and LGA1156 in the overclocking part?
(I'm a week 2 winner by the way)
Still, it will be very interesting.
Trying to sort that out with Asus at the moment...
I was going by:
which is the third lot of prizes. I assume first lot go to Week 1 winners, second lot to week 2 winners, and so on? This is the one thing I'm confused about.
Thats how I read it, lol
nerdman win!Well we dont know how many could end up going to Taiwan. Guess we'll find out at the event.
By the way, are we all hitting the pub after the event? That includes bit-tech folk;)
If it all comes together then hell yeah :)
Excellent. Hopefully the bit-tech crowd should know some decent places around there. I'll be staying in SE London so I'll be out as long as I can get a bus south of the river.
Ooh, StratLAN?
Now all I gotta do is find my way there from my relatives place in Kent.
If that helps :p
Inferno BTW as they dont have the function to change user names on the forum, And I kinda type it in the wrong field :p
LOL Inferno! PM a mod, they'll be able to change it.
As fibble said, the mods can help you with the soft side of their banhammer :D
Thanks
Brads
Train into London then tube to Tottenham Court road.
