Whoops, my mistake, I do of course mean DiRT 2 (playing GRID at the moment, evidently need to concentrate).

True enough, but i've not had any issues with GFWL, from when i first started using it for Halo 2 Vista till now, still with Halo 2 Vista and GTA IV, maybe i've been lucky enough with it though. It all boils down to personal preference though, and i prefer to have Physical media over a download.

Your hard drives are the loudest thing in your pc? What piece of crap drives are you using lol.

Its so annoying that you cant use real money directly to buy things over GFWL, 800 points for a DLC for Fallout but you can only buy 1000, not 800. Fantastic way to erk money out of me M$ again!

Genuinely quiet PCs will show up any HD as being noisy. You've got both resonance from the drive itself (it is spinning at 7,200rpm afterall - how quiet is your car at 7,200rpm?), and the noise of the seeking heads. If you can't hear your HDs even seeking, then you've got some very loud fans. It bothers some people, doesn't bother others.

To be fair, it didn't poo its pants when I started Batman: AA, just didn't appear at all while I was offline. Steam got in a strop with me though when I was *GASP* not connected to the internet!!

I think the real bone here is the limitations on our personal choices. If I didn't want to use Steam, I'd buy the game from Amazon or GAME.

I bought Fear 2 from Game, the first thing it did after installing was to install Steam, then it wouldn't let me play until I downloaded the patch from Steam, which I had already downloaded from Gamespot, but wouldn't let me use. I can't play the game without Steam running either. Just to say my first experience of Steam wasn't great, and I haven't had any reason to change my mind.

Biggest failure of 2009? Nvidia's anti-Intel cartoon 'humour'. Cringe-worthy...

Games for Windows Live is a real PITA! You've hit the nail on the head with that one!

I always have issues in the buttons in game, half the time you can't click on them directly and you have to offset the mouse cursor to get them to work!

DNF has already received the Lifetime FAIL Award and is therefore ineligible for further annual nominations.

Or if you have hearing loss.

Like me. :D

Despite having more than 5 fans running constantly on full tilt, I can't hear a damn thing unless I place my ears next to my PC.

Hello, i must insist that your opinion to Fifa Manager 10 is very personal.
Fifa Manager 10 is indeed far superior to Football Manager 10.
Not only can you choose the level of control over your club - make a whole new club out of nothing - build teams as you like - edit tactics as you like - control training on squad and individual level - also the 3D-Match is outstanding.
It is like Football Manager 10 is a game from the last millenium compared to Fifa Manager 10 !!!

I agree that GFWL is a big failure !

Like James said, in the UK market it's the fact that bit-tech and CustomPC are one of the largest hardware enthusiast* review sites/mags. Smaller companies have adjusted their prices after receiving good reviews and plastering the award all over their marketing here. Subsequently we no longer work with them, or, it's taken a long time to reestablish that relationship. It's unfortunate that no matter how big or small your site is you need to be aware of the tricks of the trade. :(

Other websites might not take market value into quite such a strong consideration in awarding a product - they might have a more global outlook on a review not specific to the UK market here - so value and score relate strongly with us and rarely companies have tried to game that.

You forgot to mention your rating of Far Cry 2 as a 9. That was an incredibly failure for such a boring game. How on earth it rates the same as Modern Warfare 2 is beyond me.

Wow a Far Cry 2 HATER!!!

2 posts, both bashing FC2!

Remember it was rated 15 months ago before the release of MW2, if it was reviewed again next to MW2 in 2010 im sure it would have a lower score.

For the record, I liked Far Cry 2 and felt it did deserve its rating.

Way bigger. Intel seems to believe they can deliver full ray tracing at the performance of rasterization, but to do so it needs to deliver a GPU 4 - 5x faster than current top end spec and sure, the x86 architecture is better at raytracing but it doesn't make up for that! Even then, all the demonstrations they've got of ray tracing functioning are on old games/engines. It'd be much harder to do the same to Crysis as they've done to the Quake 3 engine. That coupled with the fact that even Intel admit it will run rasterization faster than raytracing....

This is part of their failing. They're saying ray tracing is the next big thing with out providing proof why. There's no compelling tech demo to show us some advantages. They're just saying "THIS IS THE WAY, AND THE ONLY WAY IS WITH OUT PRODUCT!". As far as developers are concerned rasterization or hybrid methods are much more efficient but if Intel could pull their finger out and demo something of future technology instead then perhaps it's got a future...but that's unlikely.

How about: "Apart from fans the only moving parts in a PC are the HDD and the Optical drives"?
Could that be why hard drives are one of the loudest items in the PC? Because none of the other ones MOVE AT ALL? Optical drives are off 99% of the time too. :P

i agree, but at least intel did one thing right here: they admitted that larrabee wasnt going to ship (at least not in the form they announced), and they came out and cancelled it.

i can think of another company who also set lofty goals for themselves, but they are too busy opening cans to admit when things are wrong ;)

I hate being forced into using GFWL. It's crap and the user should have a choice.
