Damn! I got nothing but Gameworks out here. :( Oh well, at least I get my 200 man LAN @ Intel.

Nope, I studied Linguistics and Creative Writing, not English Literature and Modern Classics. Not read Lord of The Flies since I was ten years old.

tbh looks class, aint played counter-strike for close to a year really now after playing in WCG qualifiers as well as other events including infinity gaming tournys which tbh sucked ass at the LAN center in newcastle, worst set up EVER. This is making me wanna come back so hopefully theyll be organising plenty of tournaments and ill deffo travel the distance to go.

I go to a similar, yet much smaller place here in Maryland sometimes.

Cyberden Gaming Center

its been in operation here for about a year and a half.

This place looks really cool; I wish had something even half as good here in India. :( We just have "Reliance Web World", where they have maybe 10 PCs at each branch, woefully underpowered, of which at least two or three will be non-functional every day. And you have to play through their software which, combined with the aforementioned underpowered hardware, means that Counterstrike 1.6 takes five minutes to load.

I'm also concerned, though, about whether this place could sustain itself. They sure seem to be spending a lot of money and they'll need a rather large number of regular customers to make it up. Only time will tell, I guess. :)

Just a thought: you know you mentioned how they left the game's graphics on 'default', instead of pumping them up?

Well, given 99% of modern games autodetect by default, and given the PC's setups they have, wouldn't the 'default' be the highest graphical settings?

Hate to agree with you, really.

So is this where the old Virgin Megastore used to be? ie. Above CEX? Cause that is a massive space. I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about it but then I only head that way when I'm going to uni I guess.

I'll definitely try and get a few of us to go check it out though. Only one Wii is a bit disheartening mind, I'd like to show up Joe Public with my superhuman Wii Bowling skills.

something like that in edinburgh would be fantastic for me.

it looks superb hope it does well and maybe paves the way for more setups like that.

That's what I thought, but then I realised they're only running 320Mb cards so the drivers limit them

really hope this one makes it, seen too many shoddy start-ups fail because of it's beer crate seats and man-pit odour :P Could see this making a fair bit of its revenue from private parties though...

Just one Q you mentioned the games are installed on it's network..." as is share drives? or though proprietary software? I wonder if they have to re-image the local drives on a night, considering they let you bring in games, it doesn't take a mastermind to package a little nasty into a cd now

Wow ! Impressing place. But not enough booth babes' pics.
The problem with these centers is that the hardware which is very good _for now_) will over time get bad and worse : if there is poor maintenance (cleaning dust, defragmenting, removing crap installed by clients etc...), the computers will not be attractive anymore, and less people will want to go there.
By the way, XP? Vista ? Which type of account ? Can you bring your own savegames if it's a singleplayer game (STALKER...)
Not that I would go (France is a bit too far) I'm interested.

Just love the writing style. Each article is a wonder to read.

Smaller lans are always more fun, get about 20 friends and friends friends together in the garage and then its a good time. Everyone is running their own setups how they are used to them and a few different games running around on the lan. Cheaper than one of those places and everyone knows not to be an as*.
dmak 13th August 2007, 04:15 Quote
good review, but a few more shots of the booth babes would have went a long way in advertising IMO :P
Amon 13th August 2007, 05:59 Quote
One hell of a LAN center. You'll actually feel proud to tell your friends that you're going out to game... it's the new night lounge:)

Am I the only one who caught myself clicking on the booth babes picture to enlarge?

Have to agree with some of the other posters. Small private LANs are more fun. This could be ideal for arranging special parties though, but don't think there will be much regular custom.
Do you really want to risk taking on an old granny in CS:Source and getting HS by her? You'd never show yourself in the gaming public again.:D

Me too.. And the lack of proper photos are disturbing.
Joe, are you becoming a monk or something?
Where are the pics of the booth babes..

(Or did he slam the toilet door with a laptop in hand, card reader and a big grin on his face)

Joe turned into a monk when he realised that nobody was going to buy him a pony.

Good luck on maintenance on those 400 rigs! OMFG! I used to be Tech to a 3 shop gaming center with 26+ rigs each and that was fun enough! I think it could go along way to think it through ALOT and I sure hope they did for their sake. GL HF OS! :D
