mysql u root p torrentflux < mysql_torrentflux.sql.
...and the "table torrentflux.tf_settings " still doesn't exist ???
I don't think that i will need this torrentflux, as I will be using the server mostly for internal transfer and storage of file images.
Still i'm a bit puzzled, and probably will give it another try if somebody has a solution...

Should this work or do I need to get a different drive, please help because I have been pulling my hair out for the last few weeks.

Try getting rid of all the partition on the drive, and umount it...
so, in a terminal:
Code:
sudo su
cfdisk /dev/sda
delete all partitions and write the new partition table
Thanks Glider for your reply. I have tried what you suggested but when it comes to installing I get the same error: The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0)(sda) failed. Any other thoughts...
Got round this by using the alternative CD. This is a great guide and I'm glad you even check back to this forum to give advise 3 years on. The only problem I have now is my server keeps losing connection to the internet so I have never got torrentflux to work. I never losing the connection to the server but because I don't know much about lunix I can't find the problem. Might even try your second guide now.
I followed this guide to familiarize myself with linux and set up a decent home file server. I am now stuck and can't figure out what my problem is so any help is appreciated.
I had everything set up and working including ssh and vpn. I was able to vpn into my server from my desktop. I then turned off the server so I could move it to a different location and go completely 'headless'. When I turned the server back on and tried to vpn into it, UltraVNC gives me "Connection Failed - Error reading Protocol Version" after a long wait. SSH is working fine, just not VPN.
I followed this guide exactly and have read through all of this threads replies looking for a solution. I have tried several different things but to no avail. It is just weird to me how it worked the first time I tried it, but after I shut down the server I can't get it to work any longer.
I am also trying to follow Glider's guide. I am a bit of a Linux newbie, I have been playing around with Ubuntu for about 6 months.
I am running Vista SP1 as a client, and server as described in Glider's guide (Xubuntu 7.10, Samba, SSH, X11VNC). Everything is fine up to VNC.
I can connect to the server over SSH via Putty, however, getting UltraVNC to work properly is a nightmare. I was getting messages about not having the right plugin which the server was using. I tweaked the plugin settings until I thought I had it working, but then I just ended up looping back into Vista, and got infinite number of screens. B) Heheh.
Anyway, I cannot get access to the server, and I am at a loss as to why. Please help!

Its not like OO is running all the time
Even if its just sitting there, the only damage its causing is using some space
OK, I have solved a lot of my earlier problems by configuring putty and VNC Viewer. However, when I attempt to log into the server, I am asked for my password. When I give it, I get the message: 'VNC Authentication Failed!' I've tried with TightVNC, and I get 'password check failed!'
I found another bit of information I wanted to add to my problem description.
VNC will work if I use the ip of the server in place of localhost. However if I use localhost:0, it gives me the error message. I'm still trying to figure out what has changed since the first time when it worked.
I set everything up just as written and i can connect to the server through a computer on the network, i can use putty and connect to it via FTP but i can't get the vnc to work.
I logged into putty fine but when i tried VNC i got this error message:
I am still having the problems I explained above. If Glider or anyone else with linux expertise can reply or shoot me an e-mail, then I would like to set up a troubleshooting session to fix the problem.
I can do most things via SSH, but VNC offers a level of convenience I would like to have access to, and if I'm going to use it then I want it to be secure through the SSH tunnel.
I'm in my final week before my dissertation has to be in, so I don't have ages of time.
However, this seems like a misconfiguration on your client side (Windows). Make sure you aren't using encryption and the likes. Also, verify (in Putty) that the tunnel is set up correctly.
Good luck on your dissertation. I'm just beginning to write my masters thesis, so I can sort of relate.
I checked all of the windows, firewall, and putty settings I could think to check but saw nothing wrong. Anymore suggestions? Don't worry about taking your time to reply; school comes first.
Bit-tech staff, this article has inspired me, and I am for the most part successful!
I do have an issue though. My VNC screen is not the full resolution of the linux desktop and has made maneuvering windows a huge pain when I need to do that. I've adjusted the resolution on the linux desktop, and it just gets scaled so I still can't see the whole screen (haven't found a way to pan the screen over either).
never mind, seems that my desktop resolution has just shrunk ....seems like the desktop real estate through VNC is tiny! any suggestions on how to increase it?
I finally solved the problem I was having with the help of the author of x11vnc. It turns out some people have a problem with Ubuntu not configuring the lo loopback settings properly on a reboot. I was one of those people. I couldn't VNC through SSH, because the server didn't know what 'localhost' was. I fixed this by typing sudo ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1. This brought lo back up and running. I now need to make a script that will do this for me at startup.

Look into /etc/network/interfaces. No need to make a script, that is the file that defines what happens with the interfaces.
