i was that impressed with the review that i went and baught it.... (with vat off at £106 for the 4gb, so even cheaper than an ipod).

i love it, it feels durable, easy controls although the scroll wheel felt a bit hard to move at first, the menu system is so easy, it looks amazing, its a nice sized screen for videos, some nice sample music in there, and a very easy to use program for syncing music, vids n pics too... what more can i say, true ipod crusher, thanks very much bit-tech for the review

hi!
does it have a "hold" button?
and does the control-ring glow all the time? or does it quit glowing by and by? so that it doesnt exhaust the rechargeable battery so fast...
sry for my ****ing bad english ^^ ... i have never had any good skills in speaking/writing english

Hi there, welcome to the forums.

There is a hold button and it works very similarly to the iPod hold button. Also, the control ring turns off a few seconds after you've finished using it.

Hope this helps ;)

The extended battery life and drag'n'drop could sell it to me. Would like to demo one before I replaced my 4GB Nano, though.

Couple of questions if they can be answered by the reviewer, or another owner:
  • Is it a removable battery or sealed unit?
  • I assume USB charge, but do you get AC included?
  • How long is charging?
  • Does it charge whilst you are transferring, or only once it's been 'ejected'?
  • You say it's drag-n-drop, but go on to say songs are arranged by ID tags. Does that mean when you 'eject' the device, it churns through all your tunes to catalogue them all?
  • What happens if a file is missing it's tags?
  • Does it come in other colours?
  • Does it remember your song/video position if you turn it off?
Think that's it for now. :o

And for those suffering with "ball-n-chain" iTunes (and other manufs' software), get yourselves a copy of Anapod (or relevant product). With drag-n-drop and explorer integration, you'll never look back. :D

To add another question to Hwulex's, does it have a random play function?

Hi, thought this might interest folks here, just read the great review and was on the verge of ordering one then I read about some issues with it

http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9

in particular, the video limit of approx 10 minutes per segment seems a pita unless it gets a firmware fix.

Rumour has it that an 8gig version may be coming soon too??

Hmmmm, what to do....!

C'ya :)

Any idea how long it takes to convert a 1/2 hour 640x480 MPG4 video show on say a 2400 P4?

FWIW buy.com (USA) are now selling the thing for $119 after mail in rebate.
Thats about 70 quid UK, and if you have a good mate stateside they could probably put it in a jiffy bag as used gear, and slip it in under the 50 quid customs radar.

If these are the questions you want answering then yes it does have a hold button and the control ring does stop glowing after a while. Take it easy on insulting the forums, it isn't anyone's dedicated job to answer your question and with so many threads some questions might not be seen!

so after all i bought an 2gb version on ebay for 80€ ,...couldnt resist the disign an the blue wheel ^^

* Is it a removable battery or sealed unit?
- u can change battery by screw up 4 litle bolts in the backplate (but didnt tryed it myselft)
* I assume USB charge, but do you get AC included?
- charge battery? only through an usb cabel
* How long is charging?
- 2-3 hours if its empty
* Does it charge whilst you are transferring, or only once it's been 'ejected'?
- directly charge if u plug the usb cabel in ,.. while player is at the usb it cant play -.- ,...sux
* You say it's drag-n-drop, but go on to say songs are arranged by ID tags. Does that mean when you 'eject' the device, it churns through all your tunes to catalogue them all?
- after u had the device on an usb cabel it restarts an actualizes its playlist,.... needs 1-1.5 minutes,... what realy sux is that the player even actualizes if u just charge its battery
* What happens if a file is missing it's tags?
- than it display the whole file name in one line -.- stupid if the file has a long name,... it scrolls ,..but fu*kingsow,.. damn i have 90% mp3s without id3tag -.- do u know any prog to edit for all mp3s an id3 without opening every single mp3??!!!
slow
* Does it come in other colours?
- dont know ,..why ? black is beautiful ^^
* Does it remember your song/video position if you turn it off?
- jes,..it turn on at the same position (in menu or playing a song) where it has been turned off (but the loudness is resetted after every turn off/on and only have the half of the full volume

if u want to put files on the player by drag and drop and the windows explorer u must look on the player for an hidden file folder named "music". but why hidden? dont understand this

one time it felt down on the floor ,... the plexi on the upside isnt realy hard. on one edge the plexi burst a little bit so that there are little open racks in the plexi ,... -.- only by falling out of my hand so ugly things in plexi

furthermore ,..one day i carried it in my pocket where were my keys too,... now the plexi ofer the display have thousends of little scratches,..but thing i can polish these away

the volume is very tooooo low,..... thing 80db or sth ,..but its god for ur ears ^^

the equalizer is just for the dump,..
maybe i am fastidious cause of an audigy2zs

the buttons near the controlwheel are how diskribed toooooo low. every one of my friends whose had hold the player in their hands sayed that the buttons are sooo bad reachable,... and hard to push

player often hangs up.
no need of the "rec" button on the left side. totally waste
no protection for the microsd slot.
hope for a new firmware.

daaaaamn nice disign ^^
veeeeeeeery good disply,..even makes fun to watch cinema movies on it during traveles by train or bus ^^
looooove the blue scrollwheel
friend bought one too couse of the disign ^^
the included earphones are good
an movie of 700mb is converted in 3-4 minutes with an E6300 and 2gbram

thx for the first review!!!!!!!

Sorry to bump this old thread but I have a question if anyone can help since I'm considering whether or not to get this player. I read that the player only supports english character sets. Is this true? And if so does the latest firmware update support other character sets than just english?

Thanks.
