What's the expected time-frame on from submittion to Frontpage news?

Do you email the author to inform them of whether or not the story will make the front page?

Regrettably, not all submissions can be published. Successful submissions will be published within 48 hours.

;)

The stories that are most likely to be posted are where the submitter has spent the time 'writing' a passage with an opinion about the link where they found the story. Links to stories or a copy & paste of the first paragraph from the provided link are less likely to be published because we've already likely seen (and read) that story during our daily tech reading. However, if you've written something with opinion on a subject, you're actually getting your words in the lights, not just a 'thanks for the link'.

Getting your words & opinions in the lights is going to give you a better chance of having that winning story. The reader that provides the best story or a consistently good number of stories is the one who wins the graphics card (in simple terms!).

That's right - we are getting lots of submissions, but many people are just literally copy & pasting the original text and including a source link. We can't just "borrow" news like that. Find a story, research the issues, and write it in your own words. Any quotes should be limited to a sentence or two, or maybe a key paragraph.

If you read lots of bit-tech news, you would know that we don't just paste a paragraph and "click for the full story". Have a look and some recent examples:

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/10/14/pgr3_poly_count_lie/
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/10/17/bill_gates_project_gotham/

A meaty story might take you half an hour to write, it might take you an hour or more. Considering the prize is a GeForce 7800 GTX, you'd still be winning £350 an hour ;)

I submitted an article but i'm sure if it will be posted as my source is kind of shady... if its news worthy but wont post it because of this let me know and i'll re-write it and/or find another source :)

hey, I just realize that the deadline is wrong. It says "Submissions must be received by 12:00 GMT Monday 12th November, 2005 to qualify." HOwever, 12th of Nov is not a Monday, rather it's Saturday, just so you know.
The_Pope 5th November 2005, 22:54 Quote
thanks, fixed. Must've missed that after we extended the deadline from the original date before the article went on the site

Congratulations MrWillyWonka! I've enjoyed your stories over the last few weeks and you thoroughly deserve the prize. I hope you enjoy it - but don't get so carried away with the gaming goodness that you stop submitting content to Bit-tech!
